چکیده

Despite the rapid emergence and success of Inductive Logic Programming, problems still surround number handling|problems directly inherited from the choice of logic programs as the representation language. Our conjecture is that a generalisation of the representation language to Constraint Logic Programs provides an eeective solution to this problem. We support this claim with the presentation of an algorithm called NUM, to which a top-down reenement operator can delegate the task of nding numerical literals. NUM can handle equations, in-equations and dis-equations in a uniform way, and, furthermore, provides more generality than competing approaches since numerical literals are not required to cover all the positive examples available.

Rough Resolution: A Refinement of Resolution

Semantic hyper-linking [Plaisted et al., 1992, Chu and Plaisted, 1993, Chu and Plaisted, 19921 has been proposed recently to use semantics with hyper-linking [Lee and Plaisted, 19921, an instance-based theorem proving technique. Ground instances are generated until an unsatisfiable ground set is obtained; semantics is used to greatly reduce the search space. One disadvantage of semantic hyper-l...

Prolog, Refinements and RLGG's

Cohen’s [1] refinement rules provide a flexible mechanism for introducing intentional background knowledge in an ILP system. Whereas Cohen used a limited second order theorem prover to implement the rule interpreter, we extend the method to use a full Prolog interpreter. This makes the introduction of more complex background knowledge possible. Although refinement rules have been used to genera...

Macro-Operators in Multirelational Learning: A Search-Space Reduction Technique

Refinement operators are frequently used in the area of multirelational learning (Inductive Logic Programming, ILP) in order to search systematically through a generality order on clauses for a correct theory. Only the clauses reachable by a finite number of applications of a refinement operator are considered by a learning system using this refinement operator; ie. the refinement operator dete...

On the linear independence of truncated hierarchical generating systems

Motivated by the necessity to perform adaptive refinement in geometric design and numerical simulation, the construction of hierarchical splines from generating systems spanning nested spaces has been recently studied in several publications [1,2,3,4]. Linear independence can be guaranteed with the help of the local linear independence of the spline basis at each level. We extends this framewor...

Parallel Implementation of Numerical Dissipation Rate and Viscosity Post-processing in Computational Fluid Dynamics

In simulations of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the numerical dissipation generated from discretization of governing equations can rarely be ignored. Estimating numerical dissipation rate and numerical viscosity is not only pressing for subgrid scale (SGS) modelling in Large Eddy Simulations (LES) and low order methods such as Finite Volume Method (FVM) in commerical codes, but also helpf...
